Bronchiolitis Obliterans: Causes
The disease can be caused by breathing in irritant fumes, such as chlorine, ammonia, oxides of nitrogen or sulfur dioxide.

Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a chest infection caused by a virus. It affects the small breathing tubes in the lungs. It is common in babies under six months of age, although it can occur in babies up to 12 months.

Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is an infection of the small airways of the lung (the bronchioles). It is a common condition of babies. Most affected babies are not seriously ill, and make a full recovery.

Bronchiolitis Obliterans: Overview
Bronchiolitis obliterans is an inflammatory obstruction of the lung's tiniest airways, called bronchioles.

How is bronchiolitis treated?
Most children with bronchiolitis get better on their own and do not need medical treatment. Newborns, premature infants, or infants with heart or lung problems may be sicker and need to be hospitalized.

How is bronchiolitis diagnosed?
A doctor may diagnose bronchiolitis based on a medical history, your child's symptoms, and a physical exam. Testing is usually not needed if your doctor suspects the bronchiolitis is caused by RSV.

What is bronchiolitis?
Bronchiolitis (say: "bronk-ee-oh-lie-tus") is a lung infection that can be caused by several kinds of viruses.

Bronchiolitis usually affects children under the age of 2, with a peak age of 3 - 6 months. It is a common, and sometimes severe illness. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause. Other viruses that can cause bronchiolitis include: ...

Bronchiolitis is a common cause of illness and is the leading cause of hospitalization in infants and young children. Treatment includes measures to ensure that the child consumes adequate fluids and is able to breathe without significant difficulty.

Bronchiolitis begins as a mild upper respiratory infection that, over a period of 2 to 3 days, can develop into increasing respiratory distress with wheezing and a "tight" wheezy cough.

Bronchiolitis is a common lower respiratory tract infection that affects babies and young children. The early symptoms are similar to those of a common cold, such as a runny nose and cough. As bronchiolitis develops, it can cause: ...

Bronchiolitis
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) most commonly causes the symptoms of bronchiolitis: a runny nose, lack of appetite, fever, cough and wheezing.

Bronchiolitis is an infection of the lower respiratory tract that usually affects infants. There is swelling in the smaller airways or bronchioles of the lung, which causes obstruction of air in the smaller airways.

Bronchiolitis
Introduction
Bronchiolitis is an infection of the lungs' airways. It most often occurs in young children, commonly between 3 and 6 months of age.

Bronchiolitis obliterans is indicated by a significantly reduced lung capacity, shortness of breath, wheezing and a dry cough. These symptoms are often misdiagnosed as asthma or pneumonia.

Bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) is a severe lung disease that has been identified in workers who make microwave popcorn and, more recently in California, in food flavor manufacturing workers.

Bronchiolitis is a childhood disease that affects the lungs. It occurs when a virus enters the breathing system. The virus causes the tiny airways in the lungs to become swollen. As a result, a thick fluid called mucus collects in the airways.

RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the lower airways) and pneumonia in babies. It is an illness that often occurs in yearly outbreaks in communities, school classrooms, and daycare centers.

An example of a possibly serious viral infection is bronchiolitis Opens New Window.

A rare type of acute bronchiolitis fibrosa obliterans affecting individuals who inhale high levels of nitrogen oxides, particularly nitrogen dioxide, while working in recently filled silos; death may occur from pulmonary edema.
