Bubo
Bubo is an inflammatory swelling of a lymphatic gland in any part of the body. The term is usually confined to swelling of the glands of the groin.

Bubo: An enlarged lymph node ("swollen gland") that is tender and painful, particularly in the groin and armpit (the axilla). A feature of a number of infectious diseases including gonorrhea, syphilis, tuberculosis, and the plague.

Bubo: This is an enlarged, tender, swollen lymph gland most commonly found in the groin, under the arms, or on the neck, depending on the locations of the flea bite.

If the infected flea bites the victim on the hand or arm, the bubo forms in the axillary lymph nodes under the arm. If it bites the foot or leg, the bubo forms in the inguinal lymph nodes in the groin.

If your doctor suspects plague, he or she may confirm the diagnosis through microscopic examination of fluid extracted from your bubo, bronchi or trachea. Needle aspiration is used to obtain fluid from your bubo.

The initial symptom is usually a swollen, inflamed and tender lymph gland in the body near where the infected flea bit the person (a bubo). Fever is usually present.

Among the latter, the Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) and the Eurasian Eagle-owl (B. bubo) are noted predators of Barn Owls.
