Burkitt lymphoma
Overview

Burkitt lymphoma, sometimes referred to as Burkitt's tumor or malignant lymphoma, Burkitt's type, is a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma affecting the B-cells of the lymphatic system mostly in children.

Burkitt Lymphoma

Burkitt lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in which cancer starts in immune cells called B-cells.

Burkitt lymphoma: A type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that most often occurs in young people between the ages of 12 and 30, accounting for 40% to 50% of childhood NHL. The disease usually causes a rapidly growing tumor in the abdomen.

Burkitt lymphoma is a very fast growing form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
This type of tumor was first discovered in children in certain parts of Africa, but it also occurs in the United States.

Burkitt lymphoma
An aggressive (fast-growing) type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that occurs most often in children and young adults. The disease may affect the jaw, central nervous system, bowel, kidneys, ovaries, or other organs.

Burkitt lymphoma/Burkitt cell leukemia. This is a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. There are three forms of Burkitt lymphoma: endemic, sporadic, and immunodeficiency-related lymphoma.

Burkitt lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
Treatment options for recurrent Burkitt lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma include:
Combination chemotherapy.

Burkitt lymphoma and DLBCL
DECAL: dexamethasone, etoposide, cisplatin, cytarabine, and L-asparaginase.[1]
ICE plus rituximab (for B-cell lymphoma).[9]
Allogeneic or autologous bone marrow transplantation (BMT).[12] ...

Burkitt lymphoma occurs when a specialized white blood cell called the B-lymphocyte undergoes cancerous changes. The cells begin to grow and multiply out of control. The cancerous cells form tumors. Burkitt lymphoma is aggressive.

Burkitt lymphoma/diffuse small noncleaved-cell lymphoma typically involves younger patients and represents the most common type of pediatric NHL.

B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas include Burkitt lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, immunoblastic large cell lymphoma, precursor B-lymphoblastic lymphoma, ...

It may start in the lymph nodes as Burkitt lymphoma and then spread to the blood and bone marrow, or it may start in the blood and bone marrow without involvement of the lymph nodes.

Barr found it in a Burkitt lymphoma cell line. In 1968, the virus was linked to the disease infectious mononucleosis. Infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is very common and usually occurs in childhood or early adulthood.

The most common neoplasms are germ cell tumors, followed by epithelial tumors, stromal tumors, and then miscellaneous tumors such as Burkitt lymphoma.[15,16] The majority of ovarian tumors occur in girls aged 15 to 19 years.

B-cell antigens are expressed on the immature cells that make up the tumor in virtually all cases of Burkitt lymphoma.
