What is burning mouth syndrome?
Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a condition that causes pain and discomfort in the mouth, lips or tongue. If there is no clear cause for this pain, it is called primary BMS.

Burning mouth syndrome is the medical term for recurring severe mouth pain without an obvious cause. Like any pain disorder, it can be challenging to treat. At Mayo Clinic extensive testing can usually pinpoint what triggers your pain.

Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a painful, frustrating condition often described as a scalding sensation in the tongue, lips, palate, or throughout the mouth. Although BMS can affect anyone, it occurs most commonly in middle-aged or older women.
