Canker sores are small ulcers or craters that form on the inner lining of the mouth. They are one of the most frequent reason we have sores on the inside of the mouth.

A canker sore is a painful, open sore in the mouth. Canker sores are white or yellow and surrounded by a bright red area. They are benign (not cancer).

Canker sores can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies (especially iron, folic acid, or vitamin B-12), menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies, and similar situations. They occur most commonly with viral infections.

What is a canker sore?
Canker sores are painful sores in your mouth. They can be very tiny or up to a half inch wide. They may form on the inside of your cheeks or on your gums, lips, tongue, floor of your mouth, or roof of your mouth.

Canker sores differ from cold sores in that they occur in the soft tissues of your mouth and aren't contagious.
