Cardiac Hypertrophy

Disease Cardiac glycosidesCardiac tamponade

1 - Cardiomegaly (cardiac hypertrophy) occurs when the heart can no longer function normally; it works so hard that it enlarges. But this only weakens it. Causes include too much resistance from blood flow through the arteries.

The symptoms of endocardial fibroelastosis are related to the overgrowth of fibrous tissues causing abnormal enlargement of the heart (cardiac hypertrophy), especially the left ventricle.

Cardiac hypertrophy is recognizable microscopically by the increased size of the cells. The term hypertrophy is applied to the enlargement of the uterus during pregnancy.

ECGs may help to detect or characterize cardiac conduction defects (the movments of the electrical signals within the heart), abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), enlargement (cardiac hypertrophy), or localized damage in heart muscle.
