Cerebral Ischemia or Cerebral Infarction: Cerebral ischemia is a decrease in blood flow to a part of the brain. If the blood flow is too low or cut off completely, that part of the brain begins to die. The result is a cerebral infarction.

Researchers are testing other treatments for ischemic stroke, such as intra-arterial thrombolysis (throm-BOL-ih-sis) and mechanical clot (embolus) removal in cerebral ischemia (MERCI).
We often ascribe the cause of human death to a condition or illness or trauma, but in reality, the final cause of every human death is a condition called cerebral hypoxia or cerebral ischemia.
Evidence of peripheral vascular disease (e.g., diminished pedal pulses, femoral bruits, or claudication) also increases the likelihood of coronary artery disease. Signs of cerebral ischemia may coexist in 10% of elderly patients.
