Chills
Definition
Chills is the common name for a feeling of coldness accompanied by shivering and possibly fever.

Chills may occur at the beginning of an infection and are usually associated with a fever. Chills are caused by rapid muscle contraction and relaxation, and are the body's way of generating heat when it feels that it is cold.

Chills have several causes, including:
menopause, which can cause chills as well as hot flashes and other symptoms
infections of any type, especially when bacteria get into the bloodstream.
