Chronic glomerulonephritis occurs when there is slow, progressive destruction of the glomeruli of the kidney, with progressive loss of kidney function.

Chronic glomerulonephritis causes destruction of the glomeruli in the kidneys. Each glomerulus is made up of blood vessels that filter the blood and help to produce urine.

Chronic glomerulonephritis results when tufts of blood capillaries in the kidney (glomeruli) that filter waste and control fluid excretion gradually become unable to function properly.
