Chronic neutropenia: Neutrophil production in congenital, cyclic, and idiopathic neutropenia can be increased with administration of G-CSF 1 to 10 μg/kg sc once/day.
Congenital or chronic neutropenias: This group includes Kostmann syndrome, which is a severe neutropenia apparent in babies by age 3 months, with the child experiencing recurrent bacterial infections.
A favorable outcome for most chronic congenital neutropenia requires treatment for life or bone marrow transplant. The exception is inherited benign chronic neutropenia. This form of inherited neutropenia carries a much lower risk of infection.
