What is chronic pelvic pain?
Chronic pelvic pain is pain in your pelvic region (the area below your belly button and above your hips) that lasts for at least 6 months. The pain may be steady or it may come and go.

CHRONIC PELVIC PAIN DEFINITION
Chronic pelvic pain is defined as pain that occurs below the umbilicus (belly button) that lasts for at least six months. It may or may not be associated with menstrual periods.

The causes of chronic pelvic pain are varied, but are often associated with the presence of ovarian and pelvic varicose veins. Pelvic congestion syndrome is similar to varicose veins in the legs.

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is more common in women than in men; it is thought to affect about 14% of adult women worldwide. In the United States, CPP is most common among women of reproductive age, particularly those between the ages of 26 and 30.

Up to 20 per cent of women develop chronic pelvic pain after just one episode of PID. In severe disease, as many as 75 per cent of women experience chronic pain.
