CONSTITUTIONAL SYMPTOMS. Many patients will develop low-grade fevers, chronic fatigue, and general weakness.

 


Constitutional symptoms always attend jaundice with obstruction. The patient becomes languid, drowsy and irritable, and has generally a slow pulse.

Effects may be especially pronounced in debilitated cancer patients and include uncomfortable constitutional symptoms such as fatigue, myalgias, diaphoresis, and chills.

Moderate exposure to ultraviolet radiation is followed by a red blush, but severe exposure may result in blisters, pain, and constitutional symptoms.

Were constitutional symptoms such as fever and malaise present?
Was cervicitis or urethritis present? Did individual present with current or recent diarrheal condition?

Patients usually present with constitutional symptoms (malaise, weight loss, fatigue), and hepatosplenomegaly is commonly found on physical exam. Lymphadenopathy is also found to a lesser extent.

Possible tumor or infection of a patient aged over 50 or under 20, a history of cancer, constitutional symptoms such as fevers, chills and weight loss, risk factors for spinal infection, recent bacterial infection, ...

Children usually develop few or no constitutional symptoms. Adults, however, may experience a 1-5 day prodrome of low-grade fever, headache, malaise, mild coryza, and conjunctivitis.

Most patients do not have fever and may have no constitutional symptoms. In severe cases, the edema may be extensive and associated with shock. Spontaneous healing occurs in 80 to 90 percent of untreated cases, but edema may persist for weeks.
