Cytomegalovirus or CMV is a virus that is common in the environment and the majority of adults have antibodies (an indication of previous infection) to it in their blood by age 40.

Few people have heard of cytomegalovirus (CMV), despite it being very common. In most cases it doesn't cause any symptoms, but it can cause serious complications.

Cytomegalovirus, also known as CMV, is a common infection. Although lifelong, the virus usually remains quiet in the tissues of the body after the initial infection.
