Desmoid tumors, a rare type of soft tissue neoplasm (new abnormal growth or tumor), usually develop in the arms, legs, abdomen or chest of children and adults. Sometimes they are called aggressive fibromatosis.

Desmoid tumor

Tumor of the tissue surrounding musculature, usually in the abdomen. Rarely metastasizes.

Desmoid tumors are low-grade malignancies with very low potential to metastasize. The tumors are locally infiltrating, and surgical control can be difficult because of the need to preserve normal structures.

Desmoid tumor
