Dissociative disorders (as described in the DSM-IV-TR classification system) are disorder with the essential feature of disrupted "consciousness, memory, identity or perception of the environment.

Definition The dissociative disorders are a group of mental disorders that affect consciousness defined as causing significant interference with the patient's general functioning, including social relationships and employment.

Current diagnostic categories that include similar symptomatologies are those of conversion disorders or dissociative disorders.
