Earwax buildup

Disease EarwaxEating disorder

Earwax buildup may worsen tinnitus. Excess wax in your ear canal can reduce your ability to hear outside noises and amplify internal noises.
Causes ...

Earwax buildup is a common cause of temporary hearing loss. Once the earwax is removed, hearing returns to normal.

If earwax buildup is a recurring problem, your doctor may recommend that you use a wax-removal medication, such as carbamide peroxide (Debrox, Murine Ear Drops), every four to eight weeks as a preventive measure.

Other causes of hearing loss include earwax buildup, an object in the ear, injury to the ear or head, ear infection, a ruptured eardrum , and other conditions that affect the middle or inner ear.
