Overview
A very rare autoimmune disorder characterized by autoimmune polyendocrinopathy (APE), candidiasis (C) and ectodermal dysplasia (ED).
Endocrinopathy: One of several specific diseases of any of the endocrine glands and also a general medical term for a hormone problem. For example, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, etc.
Any endocrinopathy associated with testosterone deficiency (hypogonadism) may decrease libido and cause ED. However, erectile function only rarely improves with normalization of serum testosterone levels.
The term polyendocrinopathy is used in IPEX syndrome because individuals can develop multiple disorders of the endocrine glands.
