Endometrial carcinoma. This is the most common form of uterine cancer. Cancer that grows in tissues that form linings throughout the body is called carcinoma.

Endometrial carcinoma (cancer of the uterine lining) usually causes irregular bleeding, rather than the cyclical pattern of menorrhagia.

Endometrial carcinoma A cancer of the lining of theuterus.
Endometriosis A benign condition in which tissue that looks like endometrial tissue grows in abnormal places in the abdomen.
Endometrium The layer of tissue that lines the uterus.

The exact cause of endometrial carcinoma remains unknown, although several risk factors have been identified.

When the cancer arises from the lining of the uterus (endometrium), it is referred to as endometrial carcinoma.

Overweight is a risk factor for many important disorders, including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, and, in women, endometrial carcinoma.

Cancer of the uterus (Endometrial carcinoma) is the eighth leading cause of cancer death in females. Most sufferers of uterine cancer are post menopausal women. However, 25% of all cases occur in women under the age of 50.

As with endometrial carcinomas, the prognosis is influenced by the grade and type of the adenocarcinoma, being poorest with serous differentiation.

The term endometrial carcinomas with squamous differentiation is now preferred. Endometrioid tumours of the ovary may also display squamous differentiation, and similar terminology applies in their histological classification.
