Non-epileptic seizures
Any seizure is a cause of concern, but having a seizure by itself does not mean that a person has epilepsy. The following are examples of seizures that may not be associated with epilepsy.
The majority of epileptic seizures are controlled through drug therapy, particularly anticonvulsant drugs.

People with nonepileptic seizures (NES) have periods of seizure-like activity.
Nonepileptic seizures are provoked by a temporary disorder or stressor (eg, metabolic disorders, CNS infections, cardiovascular disorders, drug toxicity or withdrawal).

A seizure may be related to temporary conditions listed below. If the seizures do not recur after the underlying problem has been corrected, the person does not have epilepsy.

People may experience seizures as a symptom of their disease, but any person undergoing brain surgery is at risk from epileptic seizures.
