In familial hypertriglyceridemia, triglyceride levels are high. This disorder affects about 1% of people. In some families affected by this disorder, atherosclerosis tends to develop at a young age, but in others, it does not.

Diagnosis
A blood test can reveal whether or not you have high triglycerides. You may need to have two (or more) blood tests for accurate results.

Hereditary conditions - Acute pancreatitis can be caused by hereditary conditions, such as familial hypertriglyceridemia (high blood triglyceride levels) and hereditary pancreatitis. These conditions usually occur in children and young adults.
