Fibroadenomas are solid, noncancerous tumours that often occur in women during their reproductive years. It is a firm, smooth, rubbery or hard lump with a well-defined shape.

Fibroadenomas
A fibroadenoma is a smooth, firm breast lump made up of fibrous and glandular tissue. The term ‘breast mouse' is also used to refer to a fibroadenoma.
Fibroadenomas are typically painless lumps that feel like small, slippery marbles. They usually develop in young women, often in adolescents, and may be mistaken for cancer, although they are benign and tend to be more circumscribed and mobile.

Several breast conditions are harmless, including fluid-filled sacs called cysts and solid round tumors called fibroadenomas. But cysts in two breast conditions, atypical ductal hyperplasia or atypical lobular hyperplasia, do increase cancer risk.

If you find a lump, don't panic; 8 out of 10 lumps are not cancerous. A lump is most often caused by a cyst, a fibroadenoma, or generalized breast lumpiness (fibrocystic breast changes), none of which are cancerous.
Fibrocystic breast lumps are cysts, which are fluid-filled sacs surrounded by fibrous tissue. These cysts are not caused by cancer. Fibroadenomas, another common cause of breast lumps, are solid lumps of fibrous tissue.
Otherwise, benign breast conditions that are not proliferative (eg, fibrocystic change, or a noncomplex fibroadenoma) do not increase the risk of a woman developing breast cancer.
In women, the fear is usually of breast cancer but many breast lumps turn out, fortunately, to be due to benign conditions that can be successfully treated such as infection, trauma, fibroadenoma, cyst, or fibrocystic condition of the breast.
