Flavonoids are known to have more than 4,000 unique chemical compounds, which are present in fruits, vegetables, spices, seeds, bark, nuts, and flowers.

Flavonoids are widely disbursed throughout plants and are what give the flowers and fruits of many plants their vibrant colors. They also play a role in protecting the plants from microbe and insect attacks.

Flavonoids help protect plants by shielding them from environmental toxins and helping repair damage. When we consume plant-based foods rich in flavonoids, it appears that we also benefit from this 'antioxidant' power.

Bioflavonoids - or simply flavonoids - are a group of water-soluble plant pigments that are responsible for the colors of many flowers and fruits.

Researchers believe that compounds called flavonoids, found in black and green tea and in certain foods like onions, may help prevent damage to cardiovascular tissues.

Several drugs, difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), isoflavonoids, selenium, vitamins D and E, and lycopene have shown potential benefit in studies. Further studies are needed to confirm this.
