Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.
Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch accounts for < 5% of bariatric procedures done in the US. Part of the stomach is removed, causing restriction. The remaining part empties into the duodenum.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass has more side effects. These include nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), bloating, diarrhea, and faintness. These side effects are all part of a condition called dumping syndrome.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). In this procedure, sometimes known as "stomach stapling," the stomach is reduced to the size of a golf ball. The stomach is divided into a large portion and a small portion.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Procedure. This is the most common and successful malabsorptive surgery in the United States. It involves creating a small stomach pouch that serves as a reservoir and restricts food intake.
