Goitre
A goitre is an enlargement of the thyroid gland. This gland is situated at the front of the throat, below the Adam's apple (larynx). It comprises two lobes that lie on either side of the windpipe and are joined in front by an isthmus.

A condition characterised by goitre and elevated serum level of thyroid hormones without manifestations of thyrotoxicosis, due to target organ unresponsiveness to thyroid hormones.
Hyperthyroidism may manifest as an enlarged thyroid (goitre), hair changes, erratic behavior, heart rate irregularities, tremor, sweating, palpitations, nervousness and increased activity and eye abnormalities.
