Head Lice
Head lice are small insects that live in people's hair and feed on their blood. Lice glue their eggs, or "nits," to hair so that the nits do not get brushed off.

What are head lice?
Head lice are tiny wingless insects. They are less than 1/8 inch long (2 to 3 millimeters).

Head lice are a common problem amongst school-aged children. This is mostly due to many children being in close contact with one another, enabling the continued spread of the lice.

Head lice (also called pediculosis) are described as small, parasitic, wingless insects that inhabit your hair and scalp. Very often head lice are clearly visible near the ears, neckline and shoulders.

Head lice spread by head-to-head contact, such as sharing hats and combs or sleeping next to another person. It is most common in school-age children. Becoming infected with head lice has nothing to do with poor hygiene.
