Hemorrhoid surgery is done to remove or reduce the size of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in and around the anus and lower rectum.

HEMORRHOID SURGERY
If you continue to have hemorrhoids despite conservative or minimally invasive therapies, you may require surgical removal of hemorrhoids (hemorrhoidectomy).
Stapled hemorrhoid surgery, also called procedure for prolapsing hemorrhoids (PPH) or mucosectomy, is used for removal of large internal hemorrhoids, smaller external hemorrhoids, and other transanal surgery.
Recovery from hemorrhoid surgery can take a few days and can also be uncomfortable and painful initially. Some of the procedures are very effective but some have a fairly high recurrence rate of developing hemorrhoids again.
Possible sources of muscle and nerve damage are hemorrhoid surgery; a long-term habit of straining to pass stool; childbirth; stroke; diseases that affect nerves, such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis; and spinal cord injury.
People who have stapled surgery may have less pain after surgery than people who have the traditional hemorrhoid surgery. But the stapled surgery is more expensive.
