Hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia
Hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, inherited as an autosomal dominant gene, is characterized by defective hair and nails, and keratoderma of the palms and soles.
Nails appear thickened and discolored. They grow slowly.

They are usually an isolated finding and not associated with other skin abnormalities. Eruptive vellus hair cysts sometimes arise in children with anhidrotic and hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia or pachyonychia congenita.

Genetic factors. Children with an inherited disorder called hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia are born with few, if any sweat glands. More often, genetic disorders cause normal sweat glands to malfunction.
