A hydatidiform mole is a growing mass of tissue inside your uterus (womb) that will not develop into a baby. It is the result of abnormal conception.

A hydatidiform mole is a rare mass or growth that forms inside the uterus at the beginning of a pregnancy. It is a type of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD).

Treatment for Hydatidiform Mole
There are two ways to treat hydatidiform moles. The mole can be removed by suction evacuation followed by dilation and curettage (D&C). Or the tumor and entire uterus can be removed with a hysterectomy.

Hydatidiform mole. Also called a molar pregnancy, this type accounts for about 80% of all GTTs. There are two main types of molar pregnancy: a complete molar pregnancy and a partial molar pregnancy.

Cancer is found only in the space inside the uterus. If the cancer is found in the muscle of the uterus, it is called an invasive mole (choriocarcinoma destruens).

Hydatidiform moles are a benign form of gestational trophoblastic disease. The moles can be either complete (an androgenetic pregnancy) or partial (a triploid gestation).

hydatidiform mole A condition in women of childbearing age in which grape-like cysts grow in the uterus after conception (fertilization of an egg by a sperm).

Hydatidiform mole: A tumor that forms in the uterus as a mass of cysts resembling a bunch of grapes. Moles occur during the childbearing years. They do not spread outside of the uterus.

Hydatidiform mole occurs in 1 :200 to 1 :2000 pregnancies in the United States. Invasive mole (chorioadenoma destruens) occurs in 1: 12,000 pregnancies.

Hydatidiform mole is an overgrowth of placental tissue or an abnormal growth that develops from a non-viable, fertilized egg at the beginning of a pregnancy. It often is referred to as a molar pregnancy.

This occurs when cancer affects the tissues that would otherwise form in pregnancy. This is not a viable pregnancy, but an abnormal one, because a fetus does not develop.

The cancer may develop after a normal pregnancy; however, it is most often associated with a complete hydatidiform mole. The abnormal tissue from the mole can continue to grow even after it is removed and can turn into cancer.
