What is a hydrocele?
A hydrocele occurs from an accumulation of fluid in the tunica vaginalis (a thin pouch that holds the testes within the scrotum).
Hydrocele in Adults
A hydrocele is a collection of fluid in the scrotum. Most develop for no apparent reason, are harmless, and can be left alone. If needed, a small operation can usually cure the problem.

Is a hydrocele dangerous?
Children rarely experience any discomfort from hydrocele and it doesn't normally cause problems later in life. For this reason, doctors usually recommend waiting to see if the hydrocele disappears without treatment.

A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle. In children, this fluid comes down from the normal fluid that is present in the abdomen into a balloon-like structure around the testicle (called the "tunica vaginalis").

Factors Influencing Duration
Bleeding, scrotum swelling, or infection will increase the length of disability. Most men are able to return to work 1 day following surgery.
Hydroceles affect 1 or 2 in every 100 newborn male babies. They can also occur in older boys or men after an injury or illness.
Epididymal cysts can develop at any age, but they are most common in middle-aged men and affect up to a third of men.
