Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Definition
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is inflammation of the lungs due to breathing in a foreign substance, usually certain types of dust, fungus, or molds.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Alternate Names : Extrinsic allergic alveolitis, Farmer's lung, Mushroom picker's disease, Humidifier or air-conditioner lung, Bird breeder's lung

What is hypersensitivity pneumonitis and what causes it?
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is an inflammation of the lung (usually of the very small airways) caused by the body's immune reaction to small air-borne particles.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis has clinical similarities to other disorders that have different pathophysiologies.

Acute Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis
With acute HP, symptoms usually occur within 2-9 hours of exposure to an antigen you're sensitive to. (An antigen is a substance that your body reacts against, such as molds, dusts, and chemicals.) ...

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis or extrinsic allergic alveolitis is a widespread disease of the lungs, involving inflammation in both the small airways of the lung and the alveoli (air sacs).

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis. This type of pneumonitis is nicknamed "farmer's lung," "mushroom picker's disease" and other colorful names with good reason.
