Ichthyosis vulgaris is a common skin disorder passed down through families that leads to dry, scaly skin.

 


Ichthyosis vulgaris is a skin disorder causing dry, scaly skin. It is the most common form of ichthyosis, :486 affecting around 1 in 250 people. For this reason it is known as common ichthyosis.

Inherited as an autosomal dominant trait, ichthyosis vulgaris becomes apparent within the first year of life.
The skin shows retained sheets of keratin.
There is often an associated follicular plugging.

Ichthyosis vulgaris causes dry, scaly skin and affects approximately 1 in every 250 people making it the most common type.
