Drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia is a condition where the use of certain drugs leads to the formation of antibodies against platelets. These antibodies can cause a low platelet count, which makes bleeding more likely.

Immune thrombocytopenia is initially treated with immunosuppressant glucocorticoid drugs until platelet counts return to normal. At that time the glucocorticoids should be tapered off.

An association with immune thrombocytopenia (low platelets) has also been established. This occurs to varying degrees in as many as 50 percent of individuals with APS.

My first was born 2 years ago with NAIT (neonatal autoimmune thrombocytopenia) and all pregnancies following have a 100% of having NAIT since it is a genetic blood disorder. I am now told by a hematologist that I should have already begun G.G.

Chronic autoimmune thrombocytopenia develops in a small percentage of patients. In that case, steroid therapy eventually fails (due to the side-effects from prolonged administration).

The autoimmune disorder most commonly seen in people with CVID is immune thrombocytopenia purpura. This condition is characterized by a reduced number of platelets in the blood, which leads to abnormal bruising and bleeding.

If a drug causes your body to produce antibodies, which seek and destroy your platelets, the condition is called drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia. Heparin, a blood thinner, is probably the most common cause of drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia.

[18] Immunological aberrations, including Coombs-positive hemolytic anemia, immune thrombocytopenia, and depressed immunoglobulin levels may all complicate the management of CLL.

These antibodies can be directed against red blood cells (autoimmune anemia), platelets (autoimmune thrombocytopenia) or other tissues. In some cases, the autoimmune disease is mediated by T-lymphocytes that attack the tissues directly.

This form of thrombocytopenia may be acute (postviral thrombocytopenia) or chronic (Werlhof's disease, purpura hemorrhagica, essential thrombocytopenia, or autoimmune thrombocytopenia).

The exception is immune globulin G, which is occasionally used to treat disorders such as fetal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. Generally, equilibration between maternal blood and fetal tissues takes at least 40 min.
