Alternate Names : Direct immunofluorescence, E-rosetting, T and B lymphocyte assays, B and T lymphocyte assays
Definition
A B and T cell screen is a laboratory test to determine the amount of T and B cells (lymphocytes) in the blood.

Immunofluorescence Technique allowing the visualisation of a specific protein in cells or tissue sections (prepared from a biopsy) by binding a specific antibody conjugated to a fluorescent substrate.

Immunofluorescence assay
An immunofluorescence assay is a laboratory technique used to visualise molecules.

Immunofluorescence Assay. Immunofluorescence is a diagnostic technique used to identify antibodies to a specific virus.

Immunofluorescence: Immunoflorescence is a laboratory technique that uses antibodies linked to a light-emitting or fluorescent dye in order to study foreign substances in a tissue sample.

An immunofluorescence assay is a diagnostic technique used to identify antibodies to the HHV-2. These antibodies are proteins that help the body fight against HHV-2. If the specific antibodies are present, a positive diagnosis is made.

An indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is the principal test used to detect HA infection. Acute and convalescent phase serum samples can be evaluated to look for a four-fold change in antibody titer to A. phagocytophilum.

Indirect immunofluorescence assay: A laboratory test used to detect antibodies in serum or other body fluid.

Skin biopsy using immunofluorescence and electron microscopy of a freshly induced blister is used to identify the type of epidermolysis bullosa. Fetoscopy and biopsy at 20 weeks' gestation is used to identify the severe scarring forms.

Immunofluorescence assays will be done to identify antithyroid microsomal antibodies, antithyroglobulin antibodies, and antimitochondrial antibodies that may be present on thyroid cells.

Positive ELISA results then are tested with a Western blot or immunofluorescence (IFA) assay for confirmation. The combination of the ELISA and Western blot tests is more than 99.

Direct immunofluorescence of clinically normal skin adjacent to a lesion shows granular IgA deposits in the upper dermis.

This uses methods called immunofluorescence or ELISA to measure the level of the antibody that causes PV (the PV auto-antibody) in your bloodstream.

Examination of the biopsy tissue may also involve a process called direct immunofluorescence (DIF). DIF entails staining the tissue with fluorescent dye to make the antibodies "light up" under a special microscope so they can be identified.

Skin test to determine the level of antibodies by immunofluorescence
Blood test to check the level of antibodies by immunofluorescence

Diagnosis of epidermolysis bullosa may be accomplished by immunofluorescence or electron microscopy. A list of recommended diagnostic antibodies and their suppliers is available at the website of the Dystrophic EB Research Association.

The diagnosis of HPIV can be confirmed in two ways: (1) by isolation and identification of the virus in cell culture or direct detection of the virus in respiratory secretions using immunofluorescence, enzyme immunoassay, ...

In addition to a medical history and physical examination, dermatitis herpetiformis is usually confirmed with a skin biopsy with immunofluorescence (a specialized type of stain which helps to detect the presence of IgA antibodies).

A kidney biopsy and examination of the tissue with an electron microscope can show signs of minimal change disease. An immunofluorescence exam of the biopsied kidney tissue is negative.

The measles virus can be detected in the early stage of the disease. This is done by rapid staining (by immunofluorescence) of cells from the throat (pharynx) or urine.

Tissue or fluid samples may be sent to a special lab for more detailed testing, including immunofluorescence.

is presumptively diagnosed by history, physical exam, X-ray, and association with Ad14-diagnosed patients; definitive diagnosis is completed with isolation of the virus from the patient, a rising titer of antibodies against Ad14, immunofluorescence ...

is differentially characterised by high serum titres of antibodies to ribonuclease-sensitive extractable (saline soluble) nuclear antigen (nuclear ribonucleoprotein) and a speckled epidermal nuclear staining pattern on direct immunofluorescence.

Culture, of swabs taken from the trachea or lesions, requires inoculation in mycoplasma-free embryos or, more commonly in Mycoplasma Broth followed by plating out on Mycoplasma Agar. Suspect colonies may be identified by immunofluorescence.
