Polyps: Intestinal polyps are noncancerous tumors of the GI tract, occurring mostly in people older than 40 years. A small proportion of these polyps may transform into cancer.

Intestinal polyps commonly develop in the bowel and rectum. The exact cause is unknown, but diet, lifestyle factors and genetics are all thought to contribute. There are two major types of colorectal polyps: adenomas and hyperplastic polyps.

Benign fatty tumors under the skin or in the abdomen and/or intestinal polyps (most commonly hamartomatous polyps on the intestine) are common in affected individuals.
