Leaking urine is never a normal or expected part of aging, and you should not just "learn to live with it". In most cases, treatments are available to reduce or eliminate leaking.

 


If you're leaking urine when you cough, laugh or sneeze, or you have sudden urges to go to the bathroom that are so intense you fear you won't get there in time, you're probably experiencing incontinence.

Are there different types of urinary incontinence?
Yes.

Stress incontinence - leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, standing up, running or walking. It may occur without a cystocele.

Total incontinence happens when you are always leaking urine.

The most common sign of urinary incontinence is leaking urine from the bladder. Other signs will depend on the type of urinary incontinence you have.

This surgery by itself does not treat stress incontinence (leaking urine when you cough, sneeze, or lift). It may be performed along with other surgeries.

The procedure should help you to be more active. You might be able to resume your normal level of activity without leaking urine. Bulging and pressure sensations in the vagina will be relieved. Intercourse should be more comfortable and enjoyable.
