Achondrogenesis type 1A and 1B: A rare lethal genetic disorder characterized by a low nasal bridge, very short limbs and incomplete bone formation of lower spine.

" They generally have a low nasal bridge and widely spaced teeth, as well, which contributes to their elfin appearance. Unfortunately, Williams syndrome does not stop at altering appearance and social and mental skills.

Clinically the disease is characterized by short limb dwarfism, thin skin, soft skull, unusually large fontanels (soft spots), blue sclerae (whites of the eyes, small nose, low nasal bridge, inguinal hernia and numerous bone fractures at birth.

There is a typically large head with prominence of the forehead (frontal bossing), underdevelopment (hypoplasia) of the midface with cheekbones that lack prominence, and a low nasal bridge with narrow nasal passages.

Undergrowth of the midface leads to down-slanting, low-placed, widely spaced eyes; a small upper jaw bone; and a low nasal bridge.

Mental retardation with wide bulbous (pugilistic) nose, low nasal bridge, moderate hirsutism, and digital anomalies with nail hypoplasia (especially of the fifth fingers).

All of those with achondroplasia have larger than average heads, big foreheads, under development of the mid-face, and a low nasal bridge with narrow nasal passages.
