What is Lymphedema?
Although many people have never heard of this condition, lymphedema is a common cause of leg or arm swelling due to the collection of too much lymph fluid.
Lymphedema refers to swelling that occurs most often in your arms or legs. It may affect just one arm or leg, but sometimes lymphedema can involve both arms or both legs.
Lymphedema can occur due to a defect in the function of the lymphatic system, although this is not common. In this situation, the lymphedema is referred to as primary lymphedema.

How is Lymphedema Treated?
Lymphedema is best treated when found early so it is important to know the early signs and symptoms. However, not all swelling is lymphedema.
Lymphedema is a medical condition which is characterized by a buildup of fluid in the soft tissues of the body, most typically in the arms and legs.
Lymphedema can happen when the lymph system is blocked and cannot drain fluid from the tissues. It may happen when the lymphatic system becomes damaged.
