Lymphocytic colitis
A common type of bowel inflammation that affects the colon that was first discovered by medical doctors in Sweden in 1976 is called lymphocytic colitis. This is a condition where you experience chronic, watery diarrhea.
With lymphocytic colitis, tissue samples show an increase of white blood cells, known as lymphocytes, between the cells that line the colon. The collagen is not affected.

Two diseases make up this group of colon inflammation, collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. In these diseases, the inflammation is caused when the colon wall becomes engorged with either collagen or lymphocytes.
There are other, rarer types of IBD called collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. Together these are often called microscopic colitis.
IBD is not the same as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
