Mastocytosis
Overview

The term "mastocytosis" defines a group of disorders caused by too many mast cells, which are a type of blood cell produced in the bone marrow. Their primary function is to fight infections and allergic reactions.

Mastocytosis: Overview
Mastocytosis is caused by an excess of mast cells, which are part of the immune system, throughout the body.

What is mastocytosis?
Mastocytosis (say "mass-toe-sigh-toe-sis") is the abnormal growth of mast cells in the body. Mast cells are part of the immune system, which helps protect your body against infection.

Mastocytosis may be cutaneous or systemic
Cutaneous mastocytosis: This typically occurs in children.
