Metabolic disorders
Metabolic disorders are illnesses that occur when the body is unable to process fats (lipids), proteins, sugars (carbohydrates), or nucleic acids properly.
Metabolic disorders develop when normal metabolic processes are disturbed. Normally, food is broken down by the body into simpler components (proteins, fats and sugars) in a highly regulated manner.
Inherited metabolic disorders refer to different types of medical conditions caused by genetic defects — most commonly inherited from both parents — that interfere with the body's metabolism.
