Minimal change disease
Alternate Names : Minimal change nephrotic syndrome, Nil disease, Lipoid nephrosis, Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome of childhood
Definition ...

Minimal change disease is a kidney disorder that can lead to nephrotic syndrome, although the nephrons of the kidney look normal under a regular microscope.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: ...

Minimal change disease. The most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in children, this disorder results in abnormal kidney function, but when the kidney tissue is examined under a light microscope, it appears normal or nearly normal.

Minimal Change Disease
The condition most commonly associated with childhood nephrotic syndrome is minimal change disease. Doctors do not know what causes it.

Minimal Change Disease
Most cases of nephrotic syndrome in children are caused by minimal change disease. This condition is treated with oral steroids, such as prednisone.

Minimal change disease
The name 'minimal change' comes from the fact that there is virtually no change detectable in the glomeruli if a sample of kidney is looked at under the microscope.

Minimal change disease or MCD (responsible for about 80% of nephrotic syndrome in children, and about 20% in adults) MCD is a disorder of the glomeruli
Focal glomerulosclerosis
Membranous glomerulopathy
Membranoproliferative glomerulonephropathy.

Minimal change disease - although this is the commonest type of nephrotic syndrome in childhood, the exact cause is unknown. Biopsies of the kidney (tiny samples of tissue examined under the microscope) appear to be normal or very nearly so.

Minimal change disease - Minimal change disease is a kidney disease that can occur in both adults and children. People with minimal change disease have normal or very mild abnormalities of the glomeruli.

Minimal change disease -- most commonly seen in children.
Focal glomerulosclerosis -- commonly seen in AIDS
Membranous Glomerulonephritis -- the most common form in adults.

Minimal Change Disease
(Lipoid Nephrosis; Nil Disease)
Minimal change disease causes abrupt onset of edema and heavy proteinuria, mostly in children. Renal function is typically normal. Diagnosis is made based on clinical findings or renal biopsy.

Glomerulonephritis - Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis - Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis - Membranous glomerulonephritis - Nephritic syndrome - Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis - Nephrotic syndrome (Minimal change disease) - IgA ...

Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome is also called nephrosis or Minimal Change Disease. Caused by diseased kidneys, nephrosis is an illness where the kidney loses protein, which is released through the body in the urine.

The primary diseases include minimal change disease, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, membranous glomerulopathy, proliferative glomerulonephritis and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis.

MCD: Abbreviation (not only for McDonald's but also) for a number of entities in medicine including minimal change disease, mean corpuscular diameter, and medullary cystic disease.

Incidence and Prevalence: The incidence of RVT in the general population is extremely variable, ranging from 5% to 62% among individuals with nephrotic syndrome or minimal change disease (MCD) (Rutecki).
