Mongolian spots
Mongolian spots are blue or purple-colored splotches on the baby's lower back and buttocks. Over 80 percent of African-American, Asian, and Indian babies have Mongolian spots, but they occur in dark-skinned babies of all races.

These flat birthmarks on the surface of the skin have a blue-gray color and are often located on the buttocks or base of the spine. These types of birthmarks are generally harmless, however, they are sometimes mistaken for bruises.

Mongolian spots. Mongolian spots are smooth, blue or blue-gray birthmarks. They are often uneven in shape and are on the lower back and buttocks.
