Mouth dryness can be relieved by using a methyl­cellulose swab or spray and by drinking plenty of fluids, especially at mealtime. New agents for treatment of saliva hypofunction, such as pilocarpine hydrochloride and bromnetine, may be useful.

 


Ease mouth dryness with moisture. Sip water often, suck sugarless candy, or ice chips, chew sugarless gum, or try over-the-counter artificial saliva products.

Methods to reduce mouth dryness include hydration (drinking plenty of fluids such as water) and sucking on sugar-free lozenges, which can stimulate the production of saliva.

Because saliva normally protects the teeth, mouth dryness can promote tooth decay. Good mouth care can help keep the teeth and gums healthy and can make the patient feel more comfortable.

Mouth issues - may include mouth dryness, difficulty chewing and swallowing, and dental decay. You may need to see a specialist dentist prior to treatment to prevent future dental problems.

Methylcellulose swabs or spray might help alleviate mouth dryness. Sipping fluids throughout the day may help, too, as well as sugar-free gum or candies, which stimulate saliva production.

The most prominent symptoms of Sjögren's syndrome (eye and mouth dryness) are common and can be caused by conditions other than Sjögren's syndrome.

Nearly all the medications used for motion sickness, both prescription and nonprescription, can cause drowsiness, mouth dryness, and blurred vision. Scopolamine can cause heart rhythm disturbances.

Antihistamines frequently cause mouth dryness and sleepiness. Newer "non sedating" antihistamines are generally thought to be somewhat less effective.

Mouth dryness is a common symptom. It may progress to food sensitivity and spicy and acid food may sting. The eyes may also be involved with dryness and feel irritated and become red. Almost any organ can be affected by chronic GVHD.
