Mucositis
Mouth sores (mucositis) can be caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Mucositis is the inflammation of mucous membranes from your mouth to your esophagus, stomach, intestines, and anus.

What is mucositis?
Mucositis is the swelling, irritation, and ulceration of the mucosal cells that line the digestive tract. Mucositis can occur anywhere along the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus.

In patients getting chemotherapy, mucositis will heal by itself when there is no infection. Healing usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. Mucositis caused by radiation therapy usually lasts 6 to 8 weeks. It will depend on how long you have radiation treatment.

Mucositis
Mucositis is an inflammation of the inside of your mouth. It is a side effect of some chemotherapy drugs, biological therapy drugs, and radiotherapy to the head or neck area.

Mucositis: Mucositis, or stomatitis, is inflammation of the mucous membranes lining the digestive tract from the mouth on down to the anus.

Common toxic effects include nausea and vomiting, myelosuppression, alopecia, and mucositis. Less common, but serious, toxic effects include heart failure (if an anthracycline is used), thromboembolic events,[224] and premature menopause.

In addition to the normal side effects of radiotherapy, the specific effects on the mouth include mucositis - a painful dry inflamed mouth, which may make speaking and eating difficult. These side effects resolve when treatment is complete.
