Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but potentially fatal syndrome that may develop during treatment with neuroleptic drugs for conditions such as psychotic disorders, delirium, nausea, and vomiting.

Encephalopathic syndrome: A dangerous condition with symptoms similar to those of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), of which it may be a variant. It is associated with lithium toxicity.

The other serious problem is neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a rare, but life threatening reaction characterized by acute onset of delirium, rigidity, and fever, often accompanied by leukocytocis, and elevated CPK.

Patients with Parkinson's should not withdraw from this drug abruptly. In rare instances, it can cause acute delirium or a life-threatening condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this drug.
