Nodules
Definition
Nodules are solid, raised bumps on the skin, greater than 10 millimeters in diameter.

Some nodules, however, may become large enough to press on your windpipe (trachea) or your esophagus, making it uncomfortable or difficult to swallow.

Thyroid nodules are growths or lumps in the thyroid gland gland in the front of your neck. This gland controls how your body uses energy. Most thyroid nodules are not cancer and do not cause problems. Many don't even need treatment.

Nodules
If a nodule is benign-as most are-it will probably simply need to be monitored, not treated. If a biopsy is unclear or identifies a malignancy, then you will need a thyroidectomy, or removal of all or part of the thyroid.

Nodules are simply lumps which are either solid or fluid-filled. The main function of the thyroid gland in the neck is to make thyroid hormone, which is essential for normal growth and metabolism.

Nodules:
Nodules, also called lumps, are round masses that may grow in your thyroid gland and affect its function. Some nodules may be related to cancer (tumor), and may grow and spread to other areas.

Nodules, often surmounted by atrophic hemorrhagic skin, can appear almost anywhere on the skin.
It can be associated with the eventual development of systemic amyloidosis, but many lesions remain localized.

Thyroid Nodules - These are usually benign, but can indicate thyroid cancer. Treatment sometimes involves a needle biopsy or surgical removal.

When the nodules are centered around the hilar regions, the chest x-ray may develop what is called the "butterfly," or "batwing" appearance. The nodules may also have a segmental or lobar distribution.

laryngeal nodules - noncancerous, callous-like growths on the inner parts of the vocal folds (vocal cords).
laryngeal paralysis - loss of function or feeling of one or both of the vocal folds.

Vocal cord nodules are small, hard, callus-like growths caused by vocal abuse. They occur in pairs, with one nodule on each vocal cord at the site of greatest irritation. They sometimes are called singer's, screamer's or teacher's nodules.

After a time infiltration and thickening of the skin become noticeable, and the nodules appear. They are lumpy excrescences, at first pink but changing to brown.

In this condition, several nodules develop in both sides of your thyroid, resulting in overall enlargement of the gland. Multinodular goiter may occur with normal, low or excessive thyroid hormone production.
Solitary thyroid nodules.

vocal nodules
Vocal nodules are benign (non-cancerous) growths on the vocal cords caused by vocal abuse. Vocal nodules are a frequent problem for professional singers.

Lisch nodules, which are small tumors on the iris (colored part of the eye), may appear around adolescence, but usually do not cause problems. Hearing loss, headaches, seizures, scoliosis, and facial pain or numbness may also be present.

Gout Nodules, Surgery - Source:MedicineNet
Gout - Gout is a condition that results when crystals of uric acid deposit in the body's tissues, causing attacks of joint inflammation (arthritis).

These growths are reddish or pink and appear as raised, irregularly shaped, scaly or ulcerated nodules.

Hyperthyroidism caused by toxic nodular goiter is where one or more nodules of the thyroid becomes overactive. The overactive nodules actually act as benign thyroid tumours. The cause of toxic nodular goiter is not known.

Condition in which the thyroid gland contains multiple lumps (nodules) that are overactive, produce excess thyroid hormones and thereby cause hyperthyroidism. This condition is also known as Parry’s disease or Plummer’s disease.

SYMPTOMS"Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, inflamed and infected nodules, sacs, and cysts. They occur where the sebaceous (oil) glands are most numerous: face, neck, chest, and back. Permanently expanded pores, as well as scarring, can result.

The doctor inserts a gloved and lubricated finger into the patient's rectum and feels the prostate to estimate its size and to detect nodules or tenderness. The exam is quick and painless, but embarrassing for some, and far from infallible.

Keloids are dense, thick nodules, typically found at areas of previously injured skin (burns, lacerations), or they may arise spontaneously on normal skin. They may be single or multiple.
