Definition
Visceral larva migrans is infection with certain parasites found in the intestines of dogs and cats.

 


Ocular larva migrans
Ocular larva migrans is the least common but potentially most serious type of toxocariasis. The condition can develop if the roundworm parasites move into the eyes.

Ocular larva migrans (OLM): This syndrome, also called ocular toxocariasis, usually has no or very mild systemic manifestations. OLM lesions consist mostly of granulomatous reactions to a larva in the retina; the larva may cause visual impairment.

Definition of Visceral larva migrans:
Visceral larva migrans is infection with certain parasites found in the intestines of dogs and cats.

Toxocara Canis -- causes a syndrome called visceral and ocular larva migrans or Toxocariasis (To.). The eggs are found in dog feces. Often presented in kids' eating dirt. Cat and raccoon feces may carry similar worms.

This roundworm can infect people as well as a variety of other animals, including dogs. Human infections are rare, but can be severe if the parasites invade the eye (ocular larva migrans), ...

When the larvae in the intestine make their way through the bloodstream to the eye, it is known as ocular toxocariasis, or ocular larva migrans, which may lead to a permanent loss of vision.
