What is osteopetrosis?
Osteopetrosis is a bone disease that makes bones abnormally dense and prone to breakage (fracture).

Osteopetrosis is often easy to identify on an x-ray, because the patient's dense bones will clearly show. Ironically, despite the fact that the bones are very dense, they are also very brittle.

Osteopetrosis - A hereditary bone disorder marked by a failure of the osteoclasts to resorb bone, resulting in increased bone mass of inferior quality.

Osteopetrosis is part of a spectrum of diseases characterised by generalised increase in skeletal density. Several forms of osteopetrosis have been described with overlapping clinical and radiographic features.

Osteopetrosis also known as marble bone disease and Albers-Schonberg disease is an extremely rare inherited disorder whereby the bones harden, becoming denser, in contrast to the more prevalent osteomalacia, in which the bones soften.

Osteopetrosis Causes, Symptoms And Treatment And Related Disorders
Osteopetrosis may be inherited as either a dominant or recessive trait and is marked by increased bone density, brittle bones, and, in some cases, skeletal abnormalities.

Definition Osteopetrosis (plural osteopetroses) is a rare inherited disorder that makes bones increase in both size (mass) and fragility. It is a potentially fatal condition that can deform bone structure and distort the appearance.
