Ovarian Torsion
Ovarian torsion is a twisting of an ovary that compromises ovarian blood supply, leading to ovarian infarction if not rapidly diagnosed and treated.
Causes ...

Definition Ovarian torsion is the twisting of the ovary due to the influence of another condition or disease. This results in extreme lower abdominal pain. Description Ovarian torsion occurs infrequently only in females.

Acute pelvic pain due to interstitial cystitis may also be caused by ovarian cyst, ovarian torsion, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, primary dysmenorrhea, pelvic tumor, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, kidney stones, ...

Complications that generally require emergency surgery include ovarian torsion in the ovary containing the cyst or rupture of a cyst that results in hemorrhage.

This is called ovarian torsion. It causes sudden severe pain. Fortunately, it doesn't happen often. If you have symptoms-especially a group of them, or a prolonged period and they are severe-ask a doctor or nurse practitioner for an evaluation.

Severe pain in women may result from twisting of an ovary (ovarian torsion), rupture of an ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy, or pelvic inflammatory disease. Men may experience severe left lower quadrant pain from testicular torsion or injury.

Imaging: A pelvic ultrasound, although not routinely done, can be an important tool in diagnosing complications such as tubo-ovarian abscesses, ovarian torsion, ovarian cysts, and ectopic pregnancy.

These cysts can become inflamed. They can also twist around (a condition known as ovarian torsion), compromising their blood supply and causing severe abdominal pain.
