Pallidotomy (posteroventral pallidotomy) for Parkinson's disease
In Parkinson's disease, a part of the brain called the globus pallidus is overactive, which causes a decrease in the activity of a different part of the brain that controls movement.

Pallidotomy and Thalamotomy
Pallidotomy and thalamotomy are surgical procedures that destroy brain tissue in regions of the brain associated with Parkinson's symptoms such as dyskinesia, rigidity, and tremor.

pallidotomy - a surgical procedure in which a part of the brain, called the globus pallidus, is lesioned in order to improve symptoms of tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia.
palming - an imaging technique involving the visualization of color.

Pallidotomy - a surgical procedure in which a small amount of tissue in a part of the brain, called the globus pallidus, is destroyed in order to improve symptoms of tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia associated with Parkinson's disease.

Pallidotomy
An electric current is used to destroy a small amount of tissue in the pallidum (globus pallidus), a part of the brain responsible for many of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Pallidotomy
In this operation a group of nerve cells in the pallidum are destroyed. It is particularly effective for treating involuntary movements (dyskinesias) and is relatively widely available.

Pallidotomy. There has been renewed interest in pallidotomy since improved imaging techniques have allowed surgeons to pinpoint the areas to be treated with greater precision.

Pallidotomy is another type of surgical procedure sometimes used to decrease tremors from Parkinson's disease. In this technique, the surgeon destroys part of a small structure within the brain called the globus pallidus internus.

Pallidotomy: A pallidotomy is a surgical procedure that destroys the globus pallidus, a structure in the brain. Pallidotomy can be used to treat tremor and rigidity in Parkinson's disease.

Thalamotomy or pallidotomy are surgeries that destroy small parts of the brain to shut off the nerves in these areas.

Surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease is also symptomatic and includes either creating small lesions (pallidotomy, thalamotomy) or deep brain stimulation (DBS) in deep parts of the brain such as subthalamic nucleus, globus pallidus, and thalamus.

The main types of surgery employed include thalamotomy, which involves cutting a section of the brain in an effort to reduce tremors; pallidotomy which also involves cutting a section of the brain in an effort to bring about a reduction in the ...

There are two options - Thalamotomy involves damaging part of the thalamus on one side only and is mainly now used for drug resistant tremor; Pallidotomy involves damaging part of the globus pallidus, and can have a dramatic effect on rigidity, ...

Once activated, the device sends continuous electrical pulses to the target areas in the brain, blocking the impulses that cause tremors. This has the same effect as thalamotomy or pallidotomy surgeries without actually destroying parts of the brain.
